According to The Nation, Lagbaja was approached to entertain supporters of Omisore, the candidate of PDP in the up-coming governorship election in Osun State, but he declined the offer, saying;
"Though the court of the land discharged and acquitted you (Omisore) in the murder case against the former Minister of Justice in Nigeria, the late Cicero of Esa-Oke & foremost nationalist, Chief Bola Ige, I have deep-rooted innermost conviction that you are culpable in the death of my mentor and benefactor. If you offer me all the allocation of Osun State during your four-year-tenure peradventure you win (which I seriously doubt), I will not perform for Iyiola Omisore governorship election.”

Because we fear death and persecutions so much in our country Nigeria, the truth is perverted and suppressed always. Nigerians living in the bondage of hunger and poverty will not say the truth even when it is glaring like the murder of Chief Bola Ige. But there is a truth nobody can suppress --- which is death for every man.
Lagbaja may not have any concrete evidence like some people may query, but his thoughts and opinion are justified by the circumstances leading to Chief Bola Ige's murder. Even as we play politics, we should dignify ourselves and respect the sanctity of human life. Nigeria is the only country in the world where somebody standing trial on a severe criminal case such as murder is declared the winner of an election into a law making assembly. We all need to think deeply on these things and show our disapproval to the evils epitomize by our leaders. Nigerians and indeed Osun State electorates may forget but history will never forget about Chief Ajibola Ige and how he was brutally cut down and silenced while serving as the chief law officer of the nation.
Surely, Lagbaja is not the supreme court. But i think we should all commend him at least for his boldness and saying what he felt about the trial of the murder of Chief Bola Ige. Let us learn to be reasonable and sensible rather than politicising every issue.
