Premium Times. Apparently the Nigeria military said today that some schoolgirls abducted from Chibok town in April this year had been rescued by Nigerian troops only to retract the statement minutes later. Read the report below...
The
Defence Headquarters has retracted its earlier statement confirming the
rescue of the abducted Chibok girls.
The spokesperson for the defence headquarters, Chris Olukolade, had told Premium Times that a yet unclear number of the girls had been freed and
driven in two Toyota Hiace buses to the Maimalari Barracks, the
headquarters of the 7th Division of the Nigerian Army in Maiduguri.
But less than 30 minutes after he spoke to us, Mr. Olukolade called back
to say he was withdrawing his earlier statement.
He
said he had been having difficulty establishing contact with his
colleagues in Maiduguri and that he was no longer sure that the girls
driven into the barracks were newly rescued.
Mr. Olukolade had told this newspaper the girls had been freed and that
the rescue exercise was still ongoing and that appropriate statement
would be made later. Premium Times has also learnt that the girls driven into the Maimalari
barracks were those who escaped earlier from the Boko Haram sect.
The over 200 girls, mostly teenagers, were kidnapped from their
secondary school in Chibok, Borno State, on April 14.
With the military withdrawing its statement, it now does appear the
girls are still in captivity

I must say that this is very unprofessional of the Military (Olukolade) how can u release such a sensitive statement and say u withdraw, it's as good as telling u that u have been relieved of ur job and later called back to it
They should get there facts clear b4 publishing...

I think he had to withdraw is statement for security reasons .Maybe for the girls safety.
There is more to nigerian soldiers defeating boko haram as well as retrieving back d kidnapped gals @dis tym. In my opinion dis is all about politics as regards to 2015. Suddenly our soldiers and govt became so very active and began to record victory daily. God bless nigeria.
I don't believe anything premium time says, if it was actually a statement issued by DHQ where is the evidence, a screen grab of the tweet if it was via twitter or a copy of the statement issued. Please let's pause and think sometimes and not just jump and join any bandwagon that seeks to condemn this govt.
Linda You shouldn't address an officer a very senior one at that as "Mr". (Mr. Olukolade) it's highly unacceptable in d military.

such a flop. I'm really disappointed. Contradictory statements everyday, they should be queried for this error.
